Harrell-Hutchinson Visiting Local Government Professional
About the Program
The ASU School of Public Affairs invites accomplished city and county practitioners to serve as visiting professionals, sharing their expertise with the next generation of local government leaders.
Selected professionals will engage with the academic community through multiple channels: delivering lectures in public administration courses, meeting with students throughout the School of Public Affairs, and presenting to both the ASU chapter of the International City/County Management Association and practicing local government professionals from across Arizona's cities, towns, and counties.
The role extends beyond the classroom to include participation in the Arizona City/County Management Association Conference and mentoring students enrolled in our two-year Marvin Andrews and Jane Morris Local Government Fellowship.
This hybrid program requires a minimum two-week physical presence at the School of Public Affairs in Downtown Phoenix (typically a week in January and again in September), supplemented by virtual engagement via Zoom for lectures, presentations, discussions, and consultations throughout the calendar year
The professional will be able to schedule and plan their own visit, travel, and lodging. ASU offers a stipend of $8,000 to the chosen visiting professional.
The endowment made by Lloyd and Nancy Harrell is intended to benefit students learning public administration in their classrooms as well as local practitioners in the profession.
