Legacy Corps for Veterans and Military Families (LCVMF) is a project that provides caregiver support services for veterans and military families.

Overview

Legacy Corps for Veterans and Military Families (LCVMF) is a project that provides care partner support services for veterans and military families and has existed since 2001. The care partner support is provided by deploying AmeriCorps members (volunteers) through 5 sites/partner agencies located in 4 states. This project is funded by AmeriCorps.

LCVMF was developed to meet the need for alternative respite care strategies designed specifically for veteran and military care partners. The goal in providing care partner respite is to keep families in their communities longer.

History

From 2001 to 2018, Legacy Corps for Veterans and Military Families (LCVMF) was based at the University of Maryland led by then-Principal Investigator Laura Wilson. David Swindell, the current principal investigator, served on the external program evaluation team during that time.

In September 2018, the Corporation for National and Community Service awarded a $6.6 million grant to Arizona State University to continue the LCVMF project when the prior PI retired.

The project is housed in the Center for Urban Innovation in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University. Principal investigator David Swindell is Director of the Center for Urban Innovation and Associate Professor. The ASU national team is supported by 3 full-time university staff.
